That’s right, I said it, the words the intimidate people from trying one of the most fashion forward trends of the year. But guess what, pattern mixing doesn’t have to be hard! Once you know the “secret sauce,” pattern mixing is easy!
Begin by replacing your solid top with one that is monochromatic. Both items must have one common color. My favorite way to pattern mix is to pair my florals prints with monochromatic stripes or polka dots. Here are a couple examples:
Once you have mastered basic pattern mixing, you can step it up a notch by mixing two prints. They must have one unifying color and you don’t want the two pattern to compete with eachother. The easiest way to ensure this is to choose one “large” pattern and mix it with a “small” pattern.
The last phase to becoming a pattern mixing master is to mix and match two patterns with a monochromatic or neutral third piece. I will add that leopard print is ALWAYS a neutral. That’s one thing I didn’t realize until studying fashion. Who knew?! The best way to improve your skills is to practice! Head to your closet, put together some outfits and see what you think!
Once you have mastered these three techniques, you can be crowned the queen of pattern mixing, as my LuLaRoe customers lovingly call me. Want some pre-made, pattern mixing perfection?
